Grafton's Winchester facility is comprised of 2 locations — Elm Street, which has an educational facility (shown above) as well as group homes, and the Bellview Avenue educational facility, known as the Ruth Birch Center, which also houses our corporate office.

Collectively, through our Winchester facilities, we provide a comprehensive range of services from education in classroom settings to one-on-one development, from residential life in group homes to vocational training.

Our group homes provide a setting for children and youth to learn adaptive functional skills such as self-care, home care and how to use community resources. These group homes are designed for male and females ages 6 to 21 with:

  • Autism or mental retardation that may co-exist with other psychiatric disorders
  • Challenging behaviors
  • Psychiatric conditions

Services for students in group homes include:

  • Education
  • Speech therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Medication management
  • Positive behavior supports
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Case management

Functional Skills Training

  • Communication
  • Adaptive living skills
  • Social skills
  • Behavioral self-management
  • Recreational

Group Homes

Grafton’s group homes provide adults with the ability to live in a supervised residential setting with the support and monitoring they need.

Grafton’s Community Group Homes are licensed by the Virginia Interdepartmental Regulations of Children’s Residential Facilities (a joint effort of the Department of Education and Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services), as well as the Developmental Disabilities Administration of Maryland.
