Virginia Autism Resource Center
The Virginia Autism Resource Center (VARC) was founded in 1982 to support individuals with autism and the families who love and support them. VARC is a trusted resource for parents and professionals who wish to gather information about autism spectrum disorders and provide effective guidance, interventions and support.
From 1982-2008, VARC was operated by Grafton. In 2008, Grafton recognized a need to strengthen and expand services and began collaborating with Virginia Commonwealth University—specifically, the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center in the Department of Special Education and Disability Leadership. This collaboration has resulted in expanded resources and the extension of the VARC mission to include research.
VARC at Virginia Commonwealth University houses a lending library that offers a wide variety of materials and information. The library offers more than 1,000 books and 200 videotapes on topics related to autism spectrum disorders. VARC also provides a variety of training events designed to meet the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, as well as family members and professionals.
