Positive Behavior Support
Grafton believes in the merit of Positive Behavior Support, or PBS, and utilizes it in all settings to create a positive climate for development and education.

PBS is a comprehensive approach to understanding and resolving problem behavior of individuals. It supports an approach that prevents inappropriate behaviors, the adoption of socially meaningful behaviors, the acquisition of functional skills and is based on empirical research. Its goal is to enhance the quality of life of the individual, as well as that of their families and people around them.

As a first step, PBS requires the development of a behavior support team made up of people most involved in the child’s life which generally includes family members, educators, therapists, and others. The team utilizes person-centered planning, with an emphasis on the individual’s strengths, to create a roadmap for success.

Completing a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is also a crucial step in developing a Positive Behavior Support Plan. The assessment seeks to describe the behavior, environmental and other factors that predict the behavior and becomes the foundation upon which the Positive Behavior Support can be delivered.
