Grafton in Action – September 2021

September 28, 2021

We’ve all faced new challenges over the last 18 months, but the pandemic has also brought stories of heroism, reinvention, and resilience. Today, I would like to share an exciting milestone that has been in the works for the past year.

As of today, Grafton’s programming is available in Maryland for the first time through Salem Children’s Trust. After being closed for more than a year, Salem reopened its doors to children with special needs this morning. Salem and Grafton have been hard at work preparing for this exciting step since finalizing a new management agreement earlier this year.

Located outside Cumberland on 270 acres in the Appalachian Mountains, the new and improved campus features a school with five classrooms, four residential houses, a baseball field, fitness center, gymnasium, greenhouse, stables, and miles of trails where students can hike and ride horses. One of the campus residences has been renovated and a second is underway. We have plans to build additional homes on the site tailored to the special needs of the children we serve.

We are thrilled to be offering Grafton’s programming and model of care to a new population of children in Maryland. You can learn more about our partnership with Salem on our blog or by visiting mdsalem.org.
